West Perth Still Holds First Place Although West Perth was beaten on the first innings on Saturday, it is still the leading side in the W.A.C.A. firstgrade competition, but only because University and- Claremont-Cottesloe has yet to play a postponed game. South Perth and North Perth both advanced on the premiership table as a result of wins on Saturday. East Perth has improved its position and the keen Fremantle club has risen above Nedlands. Subiaco and Midland-Guildford, neither of which had won a match, had an exciting tussle on Saturday and Subiaco won. by two runs. Jack Evans, an East Perth opener, batted very soundly against Bassendean to compile the only century of the day. He made 103 not out and hit nine fours. He and Harry Price (missed early) added 61 for the seventh wicket to win the game. Attractive 59 Ron Sands played an attractive innings of 59 for MidlandGuildford. A talented 'keeper who has played for the State, Sands is now content to field while the promising Paul Ronan uses the gloves. The youthful Alan Preen upset Nedlands with his lefthand deliveries, taking 7-40 off 24.4 overs. One-day games, starting at 10.30 a.m., will be played today and the results will change the premiership order. Important fixtures are Claremont-Cottesloe v North Perth, West Perth v University, and Mt. Lawley v Bast Penth.
