Adelaide Educational Institute.— Mr. J. L. Young gave the usual monthly lecture to the pupils oi* this institution and their parents and friends on Friday evening last, at the schoolroom at the bac w of Freeman-street Chapel. Tho subject ex plained was Sidereal Astronomy. The lecturer ex plained very clearly the construction of telescopes, the laws of the radiation of light, and the means by which the rapidity with which light travels is calcu lated, and also showed how by means of parallax the distance of some of tho fixed stars has been oalcula ted. A vote of thanks was given to the lecturer, who announced at the conclaaion of the meeting that the next lecture would be on the English Foeta of tho seventeenth century. Fire at Willunga. — On Wednesday even ing, about 8 o'clock, as Mrs. Cheeseman, wife of a respectable tailor at Willunga, was ironing near th« window, the curtains took fire from the candle, and the thatched roof was instantly in flames. Fortu nately abundant assistance was at hand, and the direction of the wind was favourable. The thatch was soon stripped off, the furniture was carried ost, and about half the building was saved. Macclesfield Cemetery. — On Monday last, after the conclusion of the Agricultural So ciety's business, a preliminary meeting was held on ; the subject of the Cemetery at Macclesfield, which i» unfenced, and subject to every kind of violation.
