Cycle Marathon Planned By Girl

Holder of the world record for

women's seven days' cycling, Pat Hawkins, of Perth, has an ambition to win yet another world title - that of 365 days cycling, held by Mrs Billie Dovey, of England. She plans to start on February 1.

This will have to be a real marathon ride, for Mrs. Dovey covered 20,603.7 miles, and Pat will have to aim at at least 30,000 miles. This 18-year-old girl already has demonstrated her remarkable powers of endurance on her seven days' ride, when she rode 1546.8 miles and stood up to it well; but she will need every ounce of her strength to tackle the colossal task ahead of her.

'Mrs. Dovey, who did her ride in

England a few years ago, is a well-known professional rider. It was, of course, a paid job, but not only did it involve covering as much mile-age as she could, but it was a lecture tour as well. She toured in practically every district of England, and at the end of the day's ride often had to face up to the extra, strain of giving

a lecture.

' Pat Hawkins may have more to cope with in the way of bad roads, heat waves and storms than Mrs. Dovey, but evidently she feels con-fident that she is equal to this gruel-ling task.
