PROSECUTION UNDER THE SHOPS

ACT.

The reserved decision in the case against Eden George, photographer, for employing a girl without paying her wages, contrary to the provisions of the Shops Act, was delivered to-day in the District Court. The defence was that the girl paid to be taught retouching, and could do as she liked. Shewas a learner, not an employe. The magis-trate was doubtful whether the girl was an employe and so dismissed the case. On another similar charge he was fined £3, with £3 18/ costs.
