SIX YEARS OF DROUGHT NORSEMAN, July 3: Because he believes that the area between his property at Madura station (366 miles east of Norseman) and the. South Australian border is useless as a pastoral area. Mr. Robert Mackie is converting his homestead on the Eyre-highway into a stopping place for overland motorists. After six years of drought he has practically no stock left. Although there were heavy falls of rain during that period they were too far apart to be of any value. Only one season in seven was successful. One sta-tion, just west of the border, had only 400 left of 10,000 sheep after the drought. Even trees from which stock were fed in drought periods were dying.
