NEWS AND NOTES Metropolitan Forecast. Today's weather forecast for the metropolitan area is: "Cool and cloudy with a few showers and fresh north-west to west winds. Estimated maximum temperature 66deg." Yesterday's maximum temperature was 65.2deg. and the minimum was 52deg. Swans For Mr. Churchill. As a gesture from the West Australian Government, two pairs of black swans are being sent to Mr. Winston Churchill to replace black swans which were recently destroyed on his property. The swans are on board the freighter Clan Macrae, which will sail from Fremantle for Hull this morning. Planes Held Up. Air Traffic Control at Guildford airport refused a clearance for the Darwin-bound MacRobertson-Miller DC3 aircraft yesterday at 2 a.m. because of a forecast of bad weather. By 6.30 a.m. the outlook was more promising and the aircraft took off. A special MacRobertsonMiller Anson aircraft that was to have left for Geraldton yesterday morning was not allowed to leave because of unfavourable weather and the flight was cancelled. White Paper Urged. Objection has been raised recently to the use of old newspapers for the wrapping of foodstuffs. As a result, an endeavour will be made to induce all shopkeepers to use white paper. Supplies of white paper, which were limited in wartime and later because of the dollar position, are plentiful. At present some shopkeepers purchase their wrapping paper from customers and other persons' stocks of used newspaper. This is not always hygienic.Wheat Wheat Men Honoured. The investiture ot Government House yesterday was one of the rare occasions on which two members of one civil organisation have received simultaneous honours. Messrs. T. H. Bath and J. S. Teasdale received the C.B.E. (civil division) for long service to the wheatgrowing industry of the State. Parliamentary service also was mentioned in Mr. Bath's citation. Mr. Teasdale has been a trustee of the Wheat Pool of Western Australia since its inception in 1922 and Mr. Bath has been a trustee since 1925. The late Mr. A. J. Monger, another member of pool, received an O.B.E. for similar service.
