FOUNDATION DAY Fremantle Esplanade Ceremony The main function associated with the remembrance of Foun-dation Day will be an official ceremony on the Fremantle Esplanade this morning. The ceremony, at which the Premier (Mr. McLarty) and Mr. Paul Hasluck (representing the W.A. Historical Society), will speak, will be followed by a function at the Fremantle Town Hall for pioneers of the district. The day is a public holiday throughout the State and all retail stores, Government de-partments, banks, commercial and professional offices will be closed all day. Butchers' shops will be closed and there will be no bread de-livery. Service stations may open between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. and

chemist shops between 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Vegetable, fruit, confectionery and milk shops will observe the usual closing time of 11.30 p.m. Hotels and theatres will be open as usual. Pillar re-ceivers will be cleared at 10 p.m. only and the first letter delivery only will be made in the city. A W.A. Turf Club meeting at Helena Vale and a football match between South Fremantle and West Perth at Subiaco Oval will be the main sporting events to-day. Other fixtures include a soccer match at Leederville Oval, the finals of the country men's hockey carnival, an athletic and cycling meeting at York and a car racing carnival at Goomal-ling. A trotting meeting will be held at Gloucester Park this evening.
