Ex-Fighter Pilot For Big Salisbury Job

CANBERRA, Feb. 3.

Wg-Cmdr. Peter Jef-frey, DSO, DFC, former Deputy - Director of Operations at RAAF

HQ, Melbourne, and a wartime fighter pilot, has been appointed Superin-tendent, Air, for the Long-Range Weapons Estab-lishment at Salisbury, South Australia. Announcing the appoint-ment today, the Minister for Air (Mr. McMahon) said that Wg-Cmdr. Jeffrey would have the acting rank of group captain, and would set up his headquar-ters at Mallala until Salis-bury airstrip was com-pleted. Mr. McMahon said that Wg.-Cmdr. Jeffery had served "with great distinc-tion as a fighter pilot and commander in the Middle East and later in the Paci-fic."
