Death Of Pioneer ' River Mai

Capt. Richard Murray Randell, who for 56 years commanded the fleet of paddle steamers

which plied along the River Murray, died last night aged 89. His father. William Rlch-ard Randell. one of the most enterprising of the early river captains, built the celebrated Mary Anne and beat Capt. Cadell to the honor of being the first to navigate the river by steam in August 1853. Capt. Randell's grandfather, William Bevis Ran-dell, was one of the pioneers of the Gumeracha district. He is survived by one daughter. Miss O. Randell, who was matron of the Murray Bridge Hospital for many years.
