Cricket PREPARING FOR NEW SEASON The recent fine weather is a reminder that the new cricket season is not far away and W.A.C.A. clubs have been holding annual meetings in preparation for the start of the 1948-49 competitions. At Subiaco's annual meeting the voting for the positions of delegates to the W.A.C.A. was keen. Mr. T. E. Jones won the poll and Messrs. A. D. Drew and L. Jones tied. On the casting vote of the returning officer Mr. Drew was elected. In 1924 when Mt. Lawley club was formed Mr. R. G. Heath was appointed secretary. He has held that office ever since and this season will be his 25th as secretary of the club. Voting for the Mt. Lawley committee brought a surprising result as only one of last year's committeemen-Mr. A. C. Randellwas re-elected.In In his annual report Mr. Heath said that 95 players attended practice during last year, which augured well for the coming season. The club will agaip enter four teams in the competition. Ron Sands, who kept wickets for the State in the second game against the Indians last summer, has left Subiaco and will play for Midland-Guildford. At the annual meeting he was appointed coach of the club. West Perth's coach will be the State opening batsman, A. Edwards. R. Axford, a former secretary and club delegate, has been made a life member of the West Perth club. Office-bearers elected were: West Perth: President, Mr. D. Marshall; secretary-treasurer, Mr. A.
