TO START AGAIN Carlins' Atlantic Experiences NEW YORK, Aug. 27: In a message received in New York last night Mr. Ben Carlin, of Leederville, Western Australia, and his wife (who were picked up by a tanker after drifting in the Atlantic for ten days in their amphibious jeep named "Half Safe") give the following account of their voyage: "In-termittent stops occasioned by headwinds and minor hitches until there was a clank in the propeller-shaft thrust bearing. Remaining life of the bearing may be five minutes, may be one day. Decided it would be best to keep it for emergency. "Drifted and fished. A pleas ant life, cheaper than Atlantic City. Heavy storms with east north-east winds on August 17 and 18. 'Half Safe' liked it better than her crew. Weather again fair but drifting north west, sighting an average of one ship per day. Life began to pall. Signalled Texaco tanker New Jersey and asked that 'Half Safe' be lifted aboard. Later will make a new start from an undecided point."
