A FIVE-POINT MARGIN. Swan Districts beat Subiaco by only five points at Bassendean on Saturday. After having held a good lead from the start of play, the Swan Districts team slackened in the last quarter and nearly had victory snatched from it. The deci-sive factor in its favour was that it took the honours in the midfield play. Final scores:— Swan Districts .. .. 21.10 (136pts.). Subiaco .. .. .. .. 20.11 (131pts.). Goal-kickers:—Swan Districts: Ditch-burn (7), Sweetapple (4), Holmes (3), Wicks (3), Rosewarne (2) and Oakley (2). Subiaco: Hardiman (7), Cartledge (4), Bunton (3), Brewer (3), Shea, B. Smith and Bennett. Sinclair was most effective in the centre for Swan Districts. Murray dis-tinguished himself in ruck and at half-back, and Sweetapple, roving, was pro-minent throughout. Rosewarne and Ditchburn had a strong influence. Mosey, Moiler, J. Williams, Zilko, Wicks, Holmes and Oakley were useful. Baker received a fractured shin in the second quarter and after medical treat-ment was taken to hospital by the St. John ambulance. For Subiaco, B. Smith was spectacu-lar with fearless marking and great knock-outs from ruck, and his kicking was much improved. Hardiman played excellently as goal-sneak, successful tac-tics being employed in exploiting his fine marking ability. Bunton roved in de-lightful fashion, though hampered by weakness in the ruck. Peers did well on a half-forward wing. Cartledge, Brewer. Cummings, Strack and Fisher gave able support.
