GOAL-FRONT ACCURACY. East Fremantle's Success. Superior forward play enabled East Premantle to beat Swan Districts at the Fremantle Oval on Saturday. Except for a period in the second quarter Swan Districts had most of the play but its forward work was weak and indecisive. On the other hand. G. DoIg was in fine form for East Fremantle and his seven shots yielded seven goals. At half-time East Fremantle had scored eight goals from 10 scoring shots and although the rain spoilt the second half the home team finished with 12.6-a good performance under the conditions. Swan Districts had 25 scoring shots but only'eight goals were scored. The play in the first half was not of a high standard and in the second half rain made conditions worse. The teams were:EAST W-EMA-NTLE-Backs: J. Clark, A. Kingsbury, skeahan. Half-backs: Briggs. C. Doig. Gabrielson. Centres: Miro, Seubert. Storer. Half-forwards: Donegan. Daniell. Prince. Forwards: Ebbs. G. Doig. Soltogglo. Ruck: Strang. Wendt, McGlinn (rover). Nineteenth man: Beccaria (did not play). SWAN DISTRICTS: Backs: Maynard. Mose. Lambert. - Half-backs: Moiler. Zilko, Bastow. Centres: Jones, Sinclair, Mosey. Half-forwards: Greene. Andrews. Oakley. Forwards: J. Clarke. Ditchburn. Rosewarne. Ruck: Murray. Chester, Sweetapple (rover). Nineteenth man: Pearce (did not play). UMPIRE: W. Collins. Within a minute and a half of the start East Fremantle had two goals on the board. Swan Districts took some time to settle down but when it did it kept East Fremantle on the defensive. Sinclair was the spearhead of several ,attacks but East Fremantle's backmen were very solid and it was not until near the end of the quarter that Swan Districts added two goals to take the lead, 3.5 to 3.1 at quarter-time. East Fremantle settled down quickly in the second quarter and goals came from Ebbs and G. Doig. Swan Districts, however, took charge but poor shooting for goal robbed it of a chance of regaining the lead. The scores were level at one stage but two quick goals put East Fremantle in front at half-time when the scores were 8.2 to 5.8. Rain fell practically throughout the third quarter and the standard of play suffered. Swan Districts battled hard but found it difficult to get the ball past the opposing half-back line. Soccer tactics were adopted freely and as a spectacle the game was far from inspiring. East Premantle led, 10.5 to 611, at threequarter time but Swan Districts deserved to be closer as it had most of the play. Swan Districts struggled resolutely in the final quarter and at one stage got within eight points of East Fremantle. The home team, however, finished well and a goal from G. Doig made the game safe. Both teams maintained a fast pace but the weather conditions were not conducive to good football. The final scores were:EAST FEEMANTLE 12.6 (78 pts.) SWAN DISTRICTS . 817 65 pts.) Scorers.-East Fremantle: G. DoIg, 7.0; Ebbs, 3.0; Wendt, 1.1; Prince, 1.0; Migro, Soltoggio, Strang, Daniell, each 0.1; one point forced through. Swan Districts: Rosewarne, 3.3; Ditchburn, 2.3; J. Clarke, 13; Sweetapple, 1.1; Lambert, 1.0; Murray, 0.3; Andrews, Chester, each 01; two points forced through. Donegan started on the half-forward line for East Fremantle but he was shifted to right half-back and he played well throughout in that position. He led cleverly and was often responsible for breaking up opposing attacks. Storer played strongly on his wing and rarely made a mistake. J. Clark was a solid defender, while G. Doig's goal-front accuracy was a big factor in his team's success. Gabrielson, Skeahan, Briggs, Ebbs, Wendt and Strang were others to do well. Zilko was the most effective player for Swan Districts. He often upset East Fremantle attacks and his clearing dashes were features of the game. Sinclair played resolutely at the centre, while Andrews at centre-half-forward, was often responsible for clever play. Murray battled hard in the ruck, while Sweetapple roved effectively. Others to do well were Chester, Mosey, J. Clarke and Lambert.
