LOW-SCORING CAME. Swan Districts Fail Badly. A poor standard of, football was seen on Saturday at Bassendean Oval when East Fremantle beat Swan Districts in a low scoring game. The strong wind and rainy conditions were not conducive to clever football and the scrambling nature of the play made the game dull and uninteresting. East Fremantle had the advantage of the wind in the first quarter but strong defence play by Swan Districts kept the visitors down to 4.8. Swan Districts failed to make the most of its opportunities in the second quarter, due mainly to ragged, ineffective forward work. G. Krepp, who had been playing brilliantly on his wing, had to leave the ground at quarter-time with a broken bone in his right hand, and his absence sadly weakened the side. At half-time East Fremantle had a handy lead and maintained it until the finish of the game. East Fremantle was without the services of Seubert (injured leg), Ebbs (injured ankle) and Strang (suffering from boils). Jones and Wicks replaced White and Pearce in the Swan Districts team. The teams were:EAST FREMANTLE.-Backs: Louthean, A. Kingsbury. keahan Half-backs: J. Clark, Hutchinson. Gabrielson. Centres: Taylor. C. Dols. Storer. Half-forwards: Becearia, McPharlin. Briggs. Forwards: Soltoggio. G. Dos.. Prince. Ruck: Wendt. Donegan, McGlinn (rover). Nineteenth man: Migro (replaced Taylor, cut eye. in last quarter). Swan Districts.-Backs: Holmes. Zilko. Bastow. Half-backs: Moiler, Sinclair, Murray. Centres: Krepp, Darmody. Mosey. falf-forwards: Jones. Rosewarne. Ditchburn. Forwards: Wicks. Maynard. J. Clarke,. Ruck: Chester. Andrews Sweetapple (rover). Nineteenth man: Pearce (replaced BreDp, broken arm, in first quarter). Umpire: W. Collins. East Fremantle was unable -to get into stride until some minutes had elapsed in the first quarter. The opposing full back line-Holmes, Zilko and Bastowstruck good form and with Sinclair a force at centre-half-back, the visitors found the way to the goal very difficult. McGlinn goaled three times, during the quarter and McPharlin added another. The strong wind made shooting for goal difficult but East Fremantle should have done better than score 4.8 for the quarter. Swan Districts failed to score. When Swan Districts attacked in the second quarter it, too, found it hard to score. Hutchinson struck form and Kingsbury and Louthean gave him excellent support. East Fremantle used a short passing game against the wind and, although the ball travelled close to the goal only points resulted. The play was uninspiring and when East Fremantle led at half-time, 4.11 to 2.6, it appeared to have the game well in hand. Heavy rain marred the third quarter and the standard of play dropped. Under the circumstances Swan Districts did well to hold East Fremantle down to 1.3. Sinclair and Murray were battling hard for Swan Districts but the forward play was still weak and unworkmanlike. At three-quarter time the visitors led, 5.14 to 2.7. East Fremantle went further ahead in the last quarter adding 2.3 to its opponent's.1.2. During the quarter East Fremantle had the distinction of kicking the fst goal against the wind. The final scores were:EAST FREMANTLE -. .17 (59pts.) SWAN DISTRICTS .. 3.9 (27pts.) Scorers.-East Fremantle: McGlimn, 4.3; Soltoggio, 1.4; G. Doig, 1.3; McPharlin, 1.1; Donegan, Prince, each 02; Wendt, Beccaria, each 0.1. Swan Districts: Clarke, 1.2; Wicks, Ditchburn. each 1.0; Murray, 02; Rosewarne, Maynard, Sweetapple, Andrews, 'each 0.1; one point forced through. In C. Doig and Hutchinson East Premantle had two fine players. DoIg was rarely beaten at the centre and, although' after half-time play was confined mainly to the wings he continued to be a driving force. Hutchinson, after a slow start, settled down to forceful football He:

marked surely and his disposal of the wet ball was clever. Donegan revelled in the conditions and was often under notice. McGlinn roved cleverly and was well supported by Beccaria and Soltoggio. Kingsbury played solidly in goals while Louthean often cleared well. Clark. Gabrielson and Wendt were also :.bove the average. Sinclair was the outstanding plajer for Swan Districts. ? marked the wet ball cleanly and his long kicks with the wind often put his team into attack. Murray battled hard throughout and his clearing dashes were highlights of the game. Holmes and Bastow proved reliable backmen, while Mosey handled the ball as much as anyone. Andrews, Zilko and Chester were useful.
