WATER FOR MINING TOWN Agnew Residents Issue Ultimatum LEONORA, May 29.-Unless an adequate water supply is provided by June 1, residents of Agnew, a mining centre of 200 persons, have decided to refuse to pay their rates to the Goldfields Water Supply Department. The secretary of the Agnew Local Health Board (Mr. J. Scott) said today that 88 men were employed on the Emu mine and that there were 33 children at the local schooL The town's major source of water was from a well which had been sunk to 90ft. and which provided an adequate supply. The water was raised to an overhead 5,000 gal. tank by a windmill, which I during last week turned for only four hours. This did not allow for sufficient water to be pumped for residents and 'during last summer there were days when no water could be got out of the pipeline at all.
