CAUGHT ON SHAFT. Accidental Fatal Injury. Early on the morning of April 17 Ernest Albert Bond (54), greaser, of Stuart-street. Mosman Park, became entangled in a shaft at the super-phosphate works of Cuming Smith and Mt Lyell farmers' Fertilisers Ltd., North Fremantle, where he was employed. He received multiple in-juries and died at the Fremantle Hospital on the same day. At an inquest in the Fremantle Courthouse yesterday before the City Coroner (Mr. R. P. Rodriguez) a jury of three found that Bond's Injuries were accidentally received in the course of his normal duties at the works and that there was no evi-dence to show how he became en tangled in the shaft. James Murphy, labourer, of Sewell Street. East Fremantle, said that he worked below the deceased. About 9 a.m. he heard a knocking noise from a platform above which he was standing. and when he looked up he saw a man's bare legs on the platform. He switched the motor off and found Bond lying across the platform. His left arm was severed and his clothing was wrapped around a shaft. Mr. B. Simpson appeared for the com-pany and Miss E. Whitfield represented the relatives of the deceased. Sgt. W. Harvey assisted the Coroner.
