Perth, October 14.

His Excellency the Governor opened the railway between Spencer's Brook and Northam yesterday in the presence of a Iarge number of settlers. That town is

now connected by rail with the centres of population. A libel action between Mr. G. W. Leake, Police Magistrate, and Mr. Horgan is now proceeding. Damages are laid at £3,000. The action arose out of a manifesto published by Mr. Horgan during his candidature at the last Perth election. The Rev. J. Gribble's action for libel against the proprietors of the West Australian, damages £10,000, is fixed for November 7.
