ALLEGED CRIMINAL LIBEL

At Darwin Police Court, yesterday, before Mr. E. C, Playford, S.M.

Donald McKinnon, of Darwin, was charged that he unlawfully and mali-ciously did publish in a paragraph in

an issue of the Northern Standard of

January 18, 1927, certain false mali-cious scandalous and defamatory libel of and concerning the said Arthur Robinson Clapp according to the tenor and effect following :

M.C. Clapp - Found.-Marranboy, Tuesday. After being lost for about thirty hours in the bush Nurses Yan-sen and Button were found last night about ten miles from Marranboy. Mounted Constable Arthur Clnpp was found about five miles out. From particulars to hand it appears that Constable Clapp left the nurses, then about twenty miles from Marranboy, to get along as best they could. The desertion of the two ladies is regarded by the men as despicable.

On the application of Mr. Barratt, who appeared for the defence, the case was adjourned till August 2nd to allow the defendant time to prepare his case.

Bail allowed, self in £25 and one surety of £25.
