MINING NEWS.

MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS.

Central, Southern Cross, 12th March - I have the honour to report as under for week ending 12th inst. :-We are crushing -with 15 heads. The water supply ia gradually diminishing from all sources, but more especially so from the mine, when until reoently we have had sufficient water for the boilers ; but we are now compelled to use the lake water, whioh is very dense. The north drive (60 feet level) was connected with Hassell's yesterday. The bottom drive south of Hassell's has been discontinued, and the men have been put on to crosscut west to-wards the reef at this level. Up to the present there has been no new discovery. The stopes are not looking quite so well. [A telegram received yesterday from the mine manager states :-" Fifteen stamps working. Saturn will not be up to hist. Will clean up to-morrow."]

Tbe atone being put through is from different parts and is poor. The contractors tt north shaft are progressing slowly. The same may be said of the crosscut (ISO feet level) whioh it passing through very hard country.

Nil Desperandum (White Feather), March 8.-Have sunk No. 1 Sbaft 4ft. for tbe week, total 64ft. Am now starting driving in order ti cub the rieh shoot of poid at the south f nd of the shaft. No. 2 Shaft ha? been sunk 5ft. 6in., total from brace 76ft.; reef of , the Eame favourable nature as last reported.

During the week I have done a considerable amount of prospecting on tbe l8 acre lease, and have discovered bo less than eight dis-tinct veins, varying in thioknea* from 4io. to 9in., tbe quartz being of firet-olass qnali y One vein íb particularly good, and on this I have put down a shaft for 9ft., the quartz being 6in. thick and showing good speaks of

coarse gold. *

Lady Looh (Coolgardie), March 11.-Sunk main shaft for the week 6ft, making 142ft. from braca. Country muoh harder ; still carrying small veins of quartz highly mineral-ised and of a very promising nature. Expeot to cut footwall in another 15ft. Water baa increased to 200 gallons per eight hour«. Prospering shaft sunk 10ft. for tbe week, total 30ft. from brace. Will crosscut and also drive cn the reef during the coming

week.

Bayley's No 2 Souh, (Coolgardie) 2nd Marob :-" Since my laat report tho develop-ment of your mine haB been put forward with a more satisfactory result. Sha't No. 3 is improving as depth ia reached, atons extremely hard nature St aft No. 2 : The deoompoBed slate is out through and a portion of the sedi-mentary formation ia in eight. I expect to out solid reef within week. The new line of re-f is still under pcrspeot, and I'believ« btfnre long something good will be discovered" Under data of 9th March tbe manager reparte : -No. 3 sbaft. At present depth the reef ia mediumhard and fairly well empaot, and seems to run more solid and defined ; it ii tbrea feet wide at the 91 feet level. The quality of sfcnt is of a his h gold heming nature. J have just crushed and waBhf d a sample of eton« which gave a very favourable result. No. 2 shaft ia giving very promising appearance as depth ia reaotied. Tue present depth is 108 feat. The casing between wall and reef cen-sista of a 9 inch leader richly coloured, the outer casing contains a very fair sampln of gold and good battery ttoLe. I anticipate the reef to be extreme'y wide. I have great reason to believe your property will prove of great value, numerous lodes existing in limit of your arpa." Coolgardie, March 17.

Two fresh re-fa have been pegged in the Mount Margaret distriot within eight or nine miles of Fitzgerald's so called mountain of gold. The find was originally made by Mc Anliffe, the prospector of tbe reward claim at the White Feather, one of the first cines floated in London.

Rain having fallen in (he neighbourhood of the country from Coolgardie to Laki Darlot, the ranges are being vigorously prospected.

General satisfaction íb" expressed at the action of the Government in having declared Coolgardie a mineral field. Silver haa been found in sufficient quantities to indnce search for this metal.

A promising re f has been discovered at Mount George by Cutmore, the original owner of Caanman's Reward.

The We6t Australian GoPfiel'a Limited are developing a very big reef on Blook 50 on the Hampton Plains. The outcrop ia over three feet acroea. The go'i ia fine, and ia said to average 2oaa. per ton. Water ia available in Goddard's dam and slate well. The property promises we'l.

There are now 62 patienta in the Govern-ment, Hospital, the return for the past fort* night showing 46 admitted, 33 discharged ; 5

deaths, 4 from fever and 1 from pei'onitia.

The weather is very pleasant, bright and warm by day and cold at night. Aa the winter ia Sitting in large numbers of men are returning every day, while hundreds of new arrivals are on the road.

A sóbeme has been propounded for storing storm wat«rB from toe southern s'opea of Mount Burgee, which now tinda its way to the cattle swamp. No details are yet published, but the Government will be asked for a catchment right over a big tract of country.

A splendid lot of s'one haB been brought in from the Aus'ralasian and tbe AoBt-alasian North, between the Broad Arrow and Bardoc. The quartz is mixed with gossan, and carrisB coarse gold freely all through it. The reef

Cub, March 17.

Two nnggetB, weighing together 95ozs., were found on Wednesday in Daniels' claim on Martin's'lead at the Island. These wera taken from the hard red cement, about 30ft. from surface. Daniels and his two partners have been working the claim for 15 months and gold has beeo found all the time.

The Princess mine, »t a cleaning up at the Francis Reward Otis mill, on Wednesday, gave 67ozs. 2dwts. from 66 tons. The lease is situated about half a mile north-west of Cue. One shaft ia down 75ft., showing the reef 5ft. 6in. wide, carrying coarse gold freely. There is also a shaft down on the underlay to

25ft.

Mr. Bizant, on behalf of the Bizant syndicate, Sydney, set out; east this week, newly equipped with frpsh horses, three men, and a nigger,^who is well acquainted with tbe

country.

Mr. Hewiteon, the new manager of tbe Kinsella, has arrived. Mr. Grey, identi-fied with the purchase of the Kinsella, is on the eve of starting for Europe, and waa ten-dered a farewell banquet by his friends be-longing to Cue and the district last night.

Good raina bava fallen between the Star of

the East and Nannine. Large pools of water been formed along the road, and feed promises to be plentiful along the road out eastward. Several parties have started out for Pt ak Hill, and intend pushing on to Weld Range, where some prospectors are doing

well.

Gibson's protection area, near Lawler's, hat been purchased on behalf of the London West Australian Exploration Co. The reef is a Btrong one, 4ft. wide, and has been traced for 13 chains. One shaft has been sunk on the reef, and four open outs hive been made showing good-looking stone thoroughly impregna'ed with fine gold.

The Mount Yagahong mine, near the Star of the East, a six acre lease owned by Far-mer Broa., has been purchased by an English syndicate. The price has not yet been di -

closed.

The abandoned lease known as the Emerald Isle Star ef the East, has been taken up by a Byndicate and re-named Gabanintha. While driving on the old workings a 3ft. reef was struck, showing good gold.

Rieb stone is bein? hau'ed up from the Champion Extended, Nannine ; also from a thirty acre claim known as Star Keys.

Nannine, March 17.

The Nannine Company bave Btrnok rich gold in the Mount Hall shaft. They also struck the lode in the main shaft, which shows splendid prospects. They expect to strike a rich shoot ia a few days. Tbe bat-tery, which at present is crushing a parcel of stone from Mount Hall and Sherring'on's claim is expeoted to obtain a yield of over

five onnces to the ton.

Captain Osborne states that the Champion property is being floated in London, and that operations arsjto be carried on upon a large scale at the mire. It is intended to erect a cyanide plant at the mine.

Splendid stone íb still comingont of theBlack Snake and Champion Extended. The stone improves as it goes lower. At present it is only about 15ft. from the surface.

Another 12-aore lease has been pegged out by Dennis and Rid'ty adjoining the Champion

Extended.

The Queen Lake Company are crashing Qneen stone. Above water level the pros-pect are fair. Mr. Robinson, the owner of tte Royalist mine, has completed the erection of winding plant, and baa started raising splendid stone.

W. MoPberaon, the well-known explorer, with his partner, Mr Johnston, íb jost leaving for eastward on a prospecting trip. They have a well equipped carnal party. Nuroer.-.us other prospectors are leaving, owing to the rains which have fallen eastward.

Messrs. Macey" and Emanuel have applied for a protection area at Mount Fraser.

Local trade is increasing. Another general store has been opened.

Mr. Warden Dowley held his usual monthly Court on Thursday. He was ac-companied by Mr. W. Hepburn Gale, Mayor of Cue. He visitad several mines during his stay, and expressed h'mself well pleased with

what he saw.

Mr. Hodgkinson, late Minister of Mines, Queensland, arrived yeaterday, and inspected the Queen Lake mina, with Mr. Wbillas, the manag«r. MeBsrs. Bratnober and Fi-ld al-o passed yesterday en route for Star of the

East mine.

A wedding took place last Saturday between Mr. McKay, part owner of Abbott's, and Mies Barndon, of Nannine.
