MISS PHYLLIS BEST.

Marriage to Mr. Atholl Fleming.

The wedding was celebrated very quietly in Sydney on Saturday morning, at Christ Church St Lawrence, Sydney, of Phyllis, second daughter of Sir Robert and Lady Best, of Melbourne, to Mr. Atholl Fleming, a leading member of the Dame Sybil Thorndike company, with which Miss Best is also appearing. In the absence of the bride's father, who was unable to go to Sydney for the ceremony, the bride was given away by Mr. Lewis Casson. Lady Best went to Syd- ney last Thursday to attend her daughter's wedding. After the ceremony a small luncheon party was given at the Hotel Aus-tralia. Mr. Atholl Fleming has had a dis- tinguished stage career since his first ap-pearance at the Savoy Theatre, London.

For three years after the war he worked in the Bank of England, but he gave up a city career to go on the stage. Among the roles played by him in Melbourne with the Sybil Thorndike company was that of Dunois in

"Saint Joan." He is the third son of the Rev. R. F. Fleming and Mrs. Fleming, of Beckenham, Kent, England. Miss Best returned to Melbourne with the Sybil Thorndike company after four and a half years spent in gaining stage experience in England, during which she had the opportunity of playing Mar-

garet Bannerman's role in "The Calendar." Her first experience on the stage was gained in Melbourne when she played minor parts with Miss Emelie Polini and Mr. Frank Harvey in "My Lady's Dress," with the Vanbrugh-Boucicault company in "Tre- lawny of the Wells," with Mr. Oscar Asche in the taming of the Shrew and with Mr. Maurice Moscovitch in "The Merchant of Venice." Following their wedding luncheon on Saturday at the Hotel Aus- tralia, Mr. and Mrs. Atholl Fleming ap-peared in the matinee performance of

"Saint Joan" at the Theatre Royal. Miss Kathleen Robinson attended the bride as maid of honour, and Mr Donald Eccles (both members of the company) acted as

best man.
