Latrobe Merge With Junior Premiers

The amalgamation of Latrobe and Bardon, last year's first grade junior premiers, is the most important of many moves made by senior soccer clubs this season. The club will be known as Latrobe-Bardon, and four of the

former Bardon players will play their first senior football against Booval at Booval to-morrow. Three of them, H. Jones and F. and S. Cansick, represented Queensland in junior football.

S. Cansick will take the. place of C. Brittain, inter-State centre-forward, who has retired; F. Cansick will play at left half, and Jones at full-back. D. Barry, another Bardon player, will be centre-half. Twenty-two teams— one more than last year— will take part in the open ing matches to-morrow. The prospec tive tour of a Chinese team will be an incentive, to players, and with many uniors making their first appearance in the senior ranks, the competition should be keen. Another factor to help in making the season a success is the restoration of complete harmony in the code. Confi-dence has been expressed- in the admin-istrative officials, Messrs. J. Revie,.A. Murray, and S. Ross, who have intro-duced several new features. Every chance will be given to young players by the playing, of official inter-city games in the reserve grade, and similar matches for the first division will .be staged for patriotic purposes in Brisbane and Ipswich. St. Helens Gains St. Helens, who will meet Corin thians at Ebbw. Vale, have benefited by transfers from other clubs. They have secured the services of the two international halves, Rod erick and Gibb, who will greatly strengthen the defence, and also have signed on three former -Bun -damba forwards, Nunn, M. Dale, and ' Youngi' '[' : Corinthians have much the same side as last year, and a close contest should rpsiilt.

One of the best matches of the day should -be that between Bundamba and 5T.M.C.A. at Kalihga. R. Kitching, the international inside forward, has transferred from Blackstone to Bun damba, who will also ?' play : the former Booval juniors, J. Hare and M.tTite. in their attack. Y.M.C.A. will -rely chiefly on last season's players, and with Jackson, Nelson, and Hudson in the front line their forwards, will' be strong. ? Blackstone also have gained by transfers. Nason, the former Y.M.C.A. forward, will play, as well as Bert ram and Kelly, two promising, youngr sters from Booval. They may prove, tod fast for Eastern. Suburbs, who, however, have been training hard under T. Guyatt. a former Sydney . player. J. Dowie, who joined the Air Force last year, will 'be available for Easts, and his play at centre-half will stiffen the defence
