UNDER FIRE.

[BY TELEGRAPH ]

SYDNEY, Monday.

Tbe reports received by Mr. Bussell, Government Astronomer, show that almost everywhere in the inlands the thermometers are rising again rapidly ; and as the winds have changed there are indications of further severe heat.

Though most of the colony has experienced more or less of a cool change, comparatively few have had any rain. The rain-bearing storm appears to have taken a line from Bourke, through Cobar, to Hillston, passing through Wagga, and thence going in the direction of Newcastle.

Brewarrina reports further deaths due to the heat.

A tornado passed over Forbes; several places were unroofed.
