HIGH COST OF INSULIN.

Expensive Item for Hospitals.

In an effort to reduce the high cost of insulin negotiations haxe been proceeding between the different public hospitals in Melbourne. The matter was referred to at a meeting of the committee of the Mel-

bourne Hospital yesterday when it was stated that a recent conference of representatives of the Melbourne Alfred, and Children's hospitals had decided to approach the Pre- mier (Mr Hogan) and request that the Government take action. For the year ended September 30 insulin cost the Mel-

bourne Hospital £1,794. A deputation to

Mr Hogan is being arranged.

In his report the medical superindendent (Dr Eric L Cooper) said that during the last fortnight 327 patients had been ad-mitted and 281 discharged, and 29 deaths had occurred. There were at present 400 patients in hospital including 100 medical cases, 200 surgical cases, and one case of

anthrax.

Councillors Wilton, W F Gray and George Taylor of Malvern Mr A A W Farrell and Mr N R Currey were elected life governors and letters were received from the Governor-General (Sir Isaac Isaacs) and the Lieutenant-Governor (Sir William Irvine) accepting invitations to become patrons of the Hospital.
