ST. KILDA SEAT.

U.A.P. CANDIDATE.

Mr. Archie Michaelis Chosen.

A convention representative of the National Federation, the Australian Womens National League, the Young Nationalist Organisation, and the All for Australia League was held in the St Kilda Town Hall last night to choose a candidate favourable to the interests concerned to contest the St. Kilda seat in the Legislative Assembly at the next State election. By a large majority it was decided to invite Mr. Archie Michaelis to stand as the United Australia party candidate in opposition to Mr. Burnett Gray, the sitting member. Mr. Michaelis accepted the invitation. Be- side Mr. Michaelis there were three pros-pective candidates:—Councillor R. H. Mor-

ley Councillor T. Unsworth, and Councillor G. H. Robinson.

Mr. Michaelis, who is aged 41 years, is a director of the firm of Michaelis, Hallen- stein and Co. Pty. Ltd. He was in Eng- land when the war broke out, and immedi-

ately enlisted in the British Army, serving throughout the war in an artillery unit, in which he won a commission. His family has lived in St. Kilda for three generations. Mr. Michaelis is a leading member of the Young Nationalist Organisation and a vice- president and one of the founders of the West Caulfield branch of the National Federation. He was educated at Wesley College, Melbourne, and at Harrow School, England.
