Richard Watson Married In Melbourne

MELBOURNE. December 4.

The culmination of a theatrical ro-mance was the wedding at St. Peter's Eastern Hill, yesterday, of Miss Joyce Armitage Tapson to Mr. Rich-

ard Charles Watson. The bride, who is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Armitage Tapson, of Bellater street, Essendon, was formerly at-tached to the publicity office of J. C. Williamson Ltd. The bridegroom is a principal of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company now playing in Mel-bourne. The bridesmaids were Misses Valda Tapson (sister of the bride), and Shirley McLean. The bridegroom is the elder son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Watson, for-merly of Adelaide. Performed by the Rev. Farnham Maynard, the ceremony was followed by a late afternoon party at the Hotel Windsor. Leaving Adelaide as an Elder over-seas scholar in 1926, Mr. Watson had an outstanding career as a singer in London including several appearances at Covent Garden Opera House. He returned to Adelaide as a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Com-pany five years ago, and was again chosen when the company was re-formed for the Australian tour last year.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Watson leaving St. Peter's Church, East Mel-bourne, on Monday after their mar-riage. Mr. Wat-son, formerly of Adelaide, is a member of the Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company. His wife was Miss Joyce Topson, and was attached to the publicity office of J. C. Wil-liamson Ltd.
