OBITUARY

Death Of Mr. M. P. Hutton

Mr. Maurice P. Hutton, well-known Sturt and interstate cricketer and foot- <*> baller, died suddenly at Ararat, Vic- <*> toria, yesterday morning. He was 37.

He was born at Parkside, the son of Mr. Percy Hutton. State superintendent

of the Australian Wheat Board. After leaving the Dnley High School, he joined the Manthorpe Memorial Cricket Club, later graduating to the Sturt club in district cricket. A leftbanded bat, he played two games for South Australia. He played half - back for the Sturt club in

league football from 1924 to 1931, and represented South Australia in a second eighteen. With the exception of the 1925-26 season, when he played fori Colts. Mr. Button plaved for Sturt from the 1923-4 season until 1929-30. He was transferred from Adelaide by the Commercial Bank of Australia about eight years ago, and acted as relieving manager at a number of country branches. Later he was sent to Melbourne. At the time of his death he was manager of the Ararat branch of the bank. He had been there for 12 months. A widow and 13-months-old j son survive. There are three brothers —Messrs. N. H. Hutton (Sturt and interstate cricketer), and G. K. Hutton. both of Adelaide, and C. A. Hutton. of; Melbourne and New Guinea. Mrs. G.j Camer.s. of Melbourne, is a sister. Port Pirie West, who died on February ]4. had been a resident of the district for 61 vears. She was born near Truro in 1857 and was a daughter of Mr William Smith. Miss Smith; lived at Glen Farm for many years. She was known as an accomplished horsewoman, and was a keen worker for the Methodist Church. | Mr. E. S. Barrow. 65. who died recently at his home at Nailsworth. had been a resident of the district for 20 i years. He was born at Mount Gam-| bier, the eldest son of Mr R.
