DONCASTER HANDICAP.

SOME PAST HISTORY.

The Doncaster Handicap, to be run on Saturday at Randwick, dates back to 1866 when Dundee won as a four -year-old, with 8.12 in 1.51½. In 1879,

1880, 1881, 1882. and 1883 the distance was nine furlongs. In 1869 Falcon finished first and Circassion third, but both were disqualified and their re-spective jockeys (C. Stanley and B. Colley) were fined for fighting during

the race.

During the existence of the race four-year-olds hold the best record with 26 wins. Three and five-year-olds have 16 wins to their credit, two-yearolds have only won it on two occa-

sions, seven six-year-olds and three aged.

The highest weight carried to vic-tory in the race is 10.4, by Marvel as a five-year-old in 1892, and Chatham, also as a five-year-old, last year.

The time record fr the race goes to Winooka with 9.13 (as a four-yearold) who recorded 1.35 ¾- for thejourney journey in 1933. Last year Chatham won in 1.40¼.

'The starters in the Doncaster last

year numbered 14, and this was the lowest since Breseis won in 1876 as a two-year-old, The largest number of starters is 3o, when Marvel won in

1892.
