NEW SCENIC ROAD. Kalamunda to Mundaring Weir. It is understood that a survey is being made by the Main Roads Commission for a new road between Kalamunda and Mundaring Weir' and an early start on construction is likely. Although Kalamunda and Mandaring Weir are among the most popular resgrts in Western Australia and are within view of each other across a valley (they are about eight miles apart), the connecting road has been practically impassable for a long time. To take in be places on one drive has involved long and circuitous travel by the main road past National Park-a trebling of the route which has been a serious deterrent to sightseers. Construction of a new road between the two centres was advocated by "GR." in an article in "The West Australian" in June and this led to official action being taken. When the road is conpleted, the main places of interest in the hills-Canning Dam, Araluen, Kalamunda, Mundaring Weir and National Park-will be connected, more or less directly, providing a scenic drive for tourists and picnickers which will compare favourably with similar attractions in other States, although parts of the road are not frst class. A possible shortening of the route near Canning Dam is under consideration.
