Claremont Wins Well. Playing brisk, systematic football, to which a small group of individual players -Clarke, G. Moloney, Compton and Hooper-provided an added measure of brilliance, Claremont won well against Swan Districts at Claremont Oval on Saturday. The teams were:-CLAIEMONT.--Backs: Sutherland, Lovegrove, S. Moloney. Half-backs: Readon, Clarke. Grieve. Centres: Morris. G. Moloney, Rosken. Half. forwards: Compton, R. Lawn, O'Reilly. Forwards: Young, Hopkins, Bee. Ruck: Reeves, Maitland, Hooper (rover). Nineteenth .man: Guthrie (replaced Compton, injured leg, in last quarter). SWAN DISTRICTS.--Jones, Avery, Zilko. Half-backs: Andrews, Murray, MeInerney. Centres: Erepp, Darmody. Mosey, Half-forwards: Moiler, Rosewarne. Penberthy. Forwards: Gorn, Holdsworth. Bastow. Ruck: Bravo, Bandell, Forden (rover). Nineteenth man: Chester (did not play). UhtPIRE.--C. N. Cook. Despite erratic kicking and a tendency to fumble in the forward line. Clarefont led with 4.5 to 1.1 at quarter time. It was far superior in the air. At centre half-back Clarke played brilliant football and subdued Rosewarne who, however, was somewhat stiff and sore. In the second quarter the Swan Districts team was outpointed at every turn and Claremont ran to a 33-point lead at the end of the term with 10.9 to 4.6. Claremont's pace improved and its marking became even more brilliant. Hooper and Hopkins scored almost every time the, ball passed the centre line while Clarke stopped the Swan Districts attack throughout the quarter. Maintaining the pressure. Claremont took complete charge of the game in the third quarter and established a winning lead of 53 points, with 15.12 to 7.7. The lead would have been greater-if six or more easy shots at goal had not failed. In a badly bedten attack Holdsworth, the Swan Districts goal sneak, did excellent work, unaided. Swan Districts made a. brilliant recovery in the last quarter and drew within' 25 points of Claremont, Murray in the rack and Holdsworth being chiefly responsible. Claremont had to abandon its, loose play and finish hard to win, with 18.14 to 13.8.
