SOCCER CLUB'S GRIEVANCE

Offers Made To Young Players

Criticism of the action of certain first division clubs in seeking to induce younger players, developed by Eastern Suburbs, to change over for the season.

was expressed by Mr. J. Venamore; chairman of Eastern Suburbs Club, yesterday. Mr. Venamore said his club was one of a few which had a direct interest in lower grade teams, extending to the schools, and it was no inducement to continue the policy of developing these players for the senior ranks if other senior clubs continued to offer induce-ments to the players to leave the club Action was required within the Q.F.S.A., he said, to prevent the continuance of such action. This season Easts will bring at least four of last year's juniors into their first division team, and the choice would be made after trial games next week-end. Jack Speare will remain as goalie, and others signed on to date are A. Clarkson, M. Lindsay, J. Dowie, D. Fairweather, R. Hudson, H. White, A. Donaldson, P. Regan, and R. Lindsay. Players signed on for the new Bundamba club include Ivan Robertson, A. Kitching, B. Petie, W. Mal'colmson, Tom Malcolmson, E. Young, G. Allen, D. Nunn, J. Allen, A. and C. Kitching, Merv Dale, and A. Thorburn. COUNCIL SECRETARY Nominations for the position of secretary of the Queensland Soccer Council closed on Saturday. The acting secretary, Mr. H. J. Barwick, said that several names had been received, including his own, but he reaffirmed his decision not to contest the position. Other likely nominees are Mr. A. E. ('Bert'') Murray, Latrobe international centre half, who recently announced his retirement from active play, and Mr. Ben Burroughs, secretary to the Booval Stars club. The list will be placed before the meeting of the Q.S.F.A. tomorrow night, when a selection is expected to be made.
