LACK OF FILM PLAYERS

Cinesound Has To Import

The Australian turn industry is feeling the effect of the number of players who have gone abroad. This was revealed by the pro

ions Pty., Ltd. (Mr. Ken G. Hall) when le announced a more ambitious proluction programme for his company. The first of the pictures, he said, jvould be a Will Mahoney comedy, :alled tentatively, 'Come Up Smiling.' This would be followed by 'Robbery [Jnder Arms,' featuring an overseas star as Captain Starlight. 'It will be essential to import an English star for the part,' Mr. Hall said, 'and, as 'Overland Telegraph' and Eureka Stockade1 are being considered, several overseas p.laycrs will be needed because of the dearth of local talent. In the last two years 10 of our players tiave gone abroad.' Mr William Freshman has been appointed director of the Will Mahoney film. He has had wide experience in the English movie industry as actor, script writer and associate producer. He is an Australian, but has lived abroad since he was a child. He has written 23 English films, and acted as associate producer on, 17 for British International Pictures.
