Ken Hall Noiv Producer

TN line with the progressive policy scheduled for Cinesound as a result of the recent New South Wales Government legis

lation favouring local production, Ken. G. Hall has been appointed producer in place of his previous dual position of producer-director. His first announcement was that he had assigned William Freshman to oe director of the new Will Mahoney starring feature comedy, which has oeen tentatively named 'Come Up Smiling.' In Cinesound's career, during which 16 pictures have been made in eight years. 'Come Up Smiling' is the first which Mr. Hall will ? not personally direct. He will, however, maintain slose personal supervision of the entire production, as well as plan ahead for a group of ambitious films headed by the long-awaited 'Robbery -.Under Arms.' 'With such advance planning to be done, it was essential that I appoint another director to lighten my load,' said Mr. Hall this week. 'By reason of his diversified overseas experience, Bill Freshman is the logical choice. 'We are now planning bigger things, as we are well able to do, by reason of the additional time at my disposal. Opportunity will be taken to find big subjects from which to make big pictures — like 'Robbery Under Arms,1 which I expect to direct personally, 'Overland Telegraph,' 'Eureka Stockade,' and others of that calibre, though not all necessarily historic. 'With the George Wallace starrer, 'Gone to the Dogs,' now ready for release in Brisbane this month, 'Come Up Smiling' on the floor, and 'Robbery' anticipated for the cameras in six weeks, we have our hands full.'
