BRILLIANT LAST QUARTE. East. Perth Outplays Swan Districts. Dominating the play in a sustained finishing effort in the last quarter, East Perth defeated Swan Districts by 42 points at Perth Oval on Saturday. For three quarters the play was even, both teams playing vigorous, skilful football under unpleasant conditions, a tricky wind making the flight of the ball erratic. At the start of the last term, however, East Perth struck excellent form and, maintaining supremacy in the air and in the ruck, where it had won throughout the game, completely dominated the game until the end. The teams were:SWAN DISTRICTS.-Backs: Zilko, Hunter, McInnerney. Half-backs: Hunt, Chandler, Penberthy. Centres: Krepp, Sinclair, HalL Halfforwards: Andrews, Dermody, Sweet. Forwards: Fountain, Holdsworth. Gorn. Ruck: Forbes, Randall, Mosey (rover). Nineteenth man: Avery (did not play). EAST PERTH.---Backs: L Ryan, J. King and Crow. Half-backs: Thomas, Starr, Oswald. Centres: Miller, Mussman, CampbelL Halfforwards: "Graham,' Cronin, Menhennett. Forw?rds: Fogarty,. McAllan, Keeffe. Ruck: B. Ryan, Golding, Parry (rover). Nineteenth man: Ward (replaced -.ing, .injured leg, in third -quarter). UMPIRE.--G. Owens. Although kicking against a stiff breeze in the first-- term, East Perth held the determined Swan Districts team, mainly because of steadier play and better kicking to the man, but Swan Districts, relying on vigour, gradually went ahead. Swan'Districts ran to a two-goal lead but East Perth, mainly through a marked advantage in the ruck, was 'frequently in attack. East Perth's pace was superior. but Swan Districts held the lead at quarter-time, with the scores:'-Swan Districts, 5.4; East Perth, 3.1. Within five minutes of the start of the second term, East Perth had drawn level. Maintaining its advantage in the ruck, and with Parry playing inspiring football in the open, East Perth took the lead when Fogarty and McAllan goaled. Swan Districts were deficient in pace and beaten in the air, but the team persisted. smashing its way into attack in the teeth of a stiff wind. East Perth, playing with remarkable system and backed by its defenders, notably King and M. Ryan, held a marked advantage in play, but the team's attack failed to seize its opportunities. When Fountain goaled, Swan Districts were only two points behind at half-time--8.5 to 8.7. The wind dropped in the third term but Swan Districts, although beaten in vital positions, continued to press forward. Chances of scoring were allowed to pass but, matching pace with pace and rigour with vigour, Swan Districts held their own. A goal by McAllan gave East Perth the lead but Swan Districts, improving its aerial work, countered the East Perth systematic methods with resolute, although at times, crude football. B. Ryan goaled to put East Perth ahead, but the team had to play hard to hold a lead of six points at three quarter. time, when the scores were:-: East Perth, 13.10; Swan Districts, 12.10. With a goal soon after the start of the final term, Cronin gave East Perth a commanding lead and a further goal by Menhenett placed Swan Districts 18 points in arrears. The East Perth ruck at this stage was unbeatable and, kicking with a breeze which had suddenly risen again, East Perth, finished at a great pace. Graham increased the lead to four goals and East Perth, pressing its advantage, scored five goals. The final scores were:EAST PERTH ...... 20.16 (136 pts.) SWAN DISTRICTS . . 14.10 (94 pts.) Goal-kickers.-East Perth: Cronin (4), McAllan (4), B. Ryan (4), Parry (3). Graham (2), Pogarty, Menhenett and Keeffe. Swan Districts: Holdsworth (6). Gorn . (2), Fountain (2), Sweet, Mosey. McInnerney, Chandler. Roving or in a place Parry played excellent football for East Perth, and was the driving force in many of its scoring movements. On one wing, D. Miller again was an outstanding player, while Gronin at half-forward was rarely faulted. B. Ryan, McAllan, .J., King (until injured), Graham and Oswald also gave good service. For Swan Districts Zilko played resolutely in defence and Holdsworth did well at forward with limited opportunities. In a beaten ruck Forbes battled hard, while at half-back Hunt did many excellent things. Hunter, Hall and McInnerney were others who were outstanding.
