Berets and Toques.

Hats, p.>i-liii]is the most important articles in a woman's wardrobe, certainly among the most difficult to choose, me this session of ii.-iilic-iil.-ii- interest by reason of their different styles. In the millinery and winter fashion shows which have commenced in most shops this week some of the new huts have been displayed. It is of interest to see how fashion pays lief tributes to scientific achievements. Among the most, popular styles of huts this winter mc the "aviators'" hats. These are small, closefitting "skirt" hats of materials, cloth, silks, hatters' plush, velvet, mill hue light falls, inside very plainly with little or 110 trimming, the hut being carried down in shaped pieces either to cover the ears or come in front of them. Sometimes this piece is in one with the hut; sometimes it is in shaped piece added to the hat. An attractive but in this style in one of the heart felts in black- had for its "carpieces" oak leaf shaped pieces of felt these hats are harmless, or have a small brim folded straight up against the crown, the back of the hat being cut sometimes to a point or curve and sometimes straight

across.

Another popular type of hat is the beret, which is also fashioned from a variety of materials, sometimes in combinations of two materials und two colours, sometimes plain. Some of the series are very simple in style, not very full, finished just with a tassel or knot from the centre of the top or from one side, where the soft crown is pulled down and fastened. Other berets are more elaborate, fuller in the crowns, which dip more to the side, and with wider forehead bands, while some have the tight
