Mr. Roberts never won a race wwiff Surge. -The Sydney mare Acmena. ow-ned by Mr. P. H. Osborne, started in the Liverpool Cup, won by Dinna Forget. She carried 7.12 to the winner's 8.7, and in a field of six anal fourth. She was beaten a quarter of a mile from home, the distance of the race being a mile and three furlongs. The American jockey Sloan has had to undergo an important operation to save his life, and lie is expected to be absent, from the saddle for a. long time. The illness will probably affeet his intended riding in England.

News lhtha been, received from England of the complete breakdown of Paris III., and Mrs. H. C. White, his owner, has decided' that the dual Caulfield Cup winner shall spend the rest of his datys at Havilah, New South Whles. He is probably on his way to Australia now. Figaro, by Paris-run, a well-known jumping performer in Victloriay has been sold to Mr. W. H. Walker, of Tenaterfield, New South Wales, for stud purposes. Simmer, the colt purchased in England for the Tocal stud, does not appear to hnh'e raced. He is ai brown, and is beautifully bred, being byr St. Simon from Duteh Oven, by Dutch Skater from. Cantiniere, by Stockwell. Simmer was., Dutch Oven's last foal. She died: soon after foaling him. Dutch Oven was a famous mare' on the turf, but she did not succeed in making munch of a, name for herself at the stud. 'She won the St. Leger and other Important races for Lord Falmbath.. The Perth correspondent of the "Age" telegraphed' the following sporting items on Mofnday:-Onslow has gone to Melbourne in the steamer Marlho to fulfil 'his Caulfield and 'Melbourne Clip engagements.
