CRICKETER AND FOOTBALLER.

Death of W. Griffiths.

The many friends and football and cricket ac-quaintenances of W. Griffiths, captain of the El-sternwick second eleven, will regret to learn of his death, which resulted from a blow he received from a cricket ball while he was practising at Elstern-wick on Tuesday evening, Mr. Griffiths was at-tempting to catch a ball, and he was struck on the head, his skull being fractured. He was taken to the Alfred Hospital that-night and he died there a few minutes before midnight.

Mr. Griffiths, who was aged 50 years, was pre-viously connected with the St. Kilda Cricket Club, and has played in the first eleven. He was, per-haps, better known as a footballer than a cricketer, for he played with Fitzroy and South Melbourne in the League and with Essendon in the Associa-

tion.
