ENTERTAINMENTS.

"Silver Box" Well Acted.

One of the early pieces which revealed John Galsworthy's possibilities as a dramatist "The Silver Box," was staged successfully at tbe Playhouse on Wednesday night by the Repertory Theatre Society

Its main theme. is open to challenge, in effect, it is the pronounce-ment often heard from soapbox orators but not borne out by observation in the courts, that "there is one justice for the rich and another for the poor " The play is well shaped, and in the main there is naturalness in the characters and the dia-logue, but, as the period is years before the war, there have been certain changes in the points of view of persons corresponding to some of those shown, and in the division of prospentity. The ability ot the dramatist makes tbe play well worth knowing, and

the performance was one of the best yet presented by the society Miss Ruby May gave the character reality, and there was able representation of the accused husband Jones by Mr Walter Armstrong and of Jack Barthwick, the thief who escapes, by Mr Frank Louie. Among others who may be mentioned in a generally meritorious cast were Mr Keith Roberts and Miss Irene Webb as the Barthwick parents; Miss Minna Suckling as an Unknown Lady, Mr Claud Thomas and Miss Maisie Bennett as Barthwick servants; Miss Hilary Blake Mr Terence Crisp and Mr Frank McDonald Mr Frank D Clewlow produced the play which will be repeated tonight and

on Saturday.
