The City of Shanghai was towed from the Port to the North Arm on Monday morning, but finding that the easterly wind had cut nine inches from the tide she was unable to proceed over the bars, and anchored in deep water, near the Quarantine Station. Entirely missing the tides would involve a detention of a fortnight, therefore no time was lost in lightering the cargo eo as to reduce the draught. A ketch and another vessel received a full lading, and .the Eleanor will also fill up, so as to enable the .' City to take advantage of Tuesday's tide if possible. The Duke op Edinburgh was towed out on Sunday morning, and will fill up at the anchorage. The Zarritza, from the Baltic, has been ordered on to Melbourne with her cargo of deals. On landing the master learned that his agents here were Messrs. Elder, Smith, and Co., and as soon as the necessary arrangements can be completed the ship will take her cargo away with the hope of finding a better market in Melbourne. The Whitk Cloud, one of the smartest yachts in the Port, and owned by Mr. W. H. Bundey, whose aquatic enterprise has had much to do with the establishment of the Yacht Club, came to grief on Saturday by running into a sunken pontoon, which ripped up a lot of her lower planking. ? The damage will be at once repaired, and the dainty vessel will once more appear under her cloud of canvas. The Joshua Bates, which was recently purchased by Messrs. Bean Brothers, is a vessel that has fora long time served in the trade between Melbourne and China. On changing owners she was at once put into the hands of the artificers for a thorough overhaul and refit. She was partially stripped, caulked, resheathed, and restored, and on opening the hull her timbers of live oak were found to be in an excellent state of preservation. The command lias been given to Captain Bicknell, an experienced master, and the ship is now half loaded at Yankalilla with bark for London. On reaching ? England she will proceed to the Baltic, and load timber for the return voyage. MELBOURNE SHIPPING. Feb. arrivhJ. 26— Dandbnong, steamer, from Sydney. 56— Rangatira, steamer, from Sydney.
