BETTER FARMING TRAIN.

Tour of East Gippsland.

The Better Farming Train will leave Melbourne on Monday for it's 18th tour of the country dis-tricts. On this occasion East Gippsland will be visited. Stops will be made at Warragul (Octo-ber 10), Trafalgar (October 11), Mirboo North (October 12), Yinnar (October 13). Maffra (October 14), Bairnsdale (October 13), Orbost (October 17), Bruthen (October 18), Sale (Octobor 19), Rosedale (October 20), and Pakenham (October 21).

As the train will visit the new irrigation dis-tricts served by the Glenmaggie weir, a special effort has been made to make the lucerne-growing section as comprehensive as possible. This sec- tion includes models showing the correct me-thods of grading land for irrigation and the com-mon faults to be avoided. Other exhibits illus-trate the best methods of applying the water and of general management of the lucerne stand. In addition, methods of pasture improvement, maize growing, potato cultivation, and orchard practices are dealt with in their respective sections. The splendid live stock exhibits carried on the train include dairy cattle, poultry, and the principal breeds of sheep. Another new car added since the train was last in Gippsland is that devoted to public health. This contains models of various sanitary appliances for use in country homes.
