He is expected here on Sunday, and the first stage tests of aspirants for screen fame will be made on the stag? of the Winter Garden Theatre on November 4. The Universal Studios, Hollywood, are extending their search for talent to Australia, and have asked Mr. Chauvel to act for them. At least one man and one girl will be selected from each mainland capital city, and will be sent under contract to Hollywood, where- they will be given a complete dramatic training for the films. It is intended to make stage trials under complete studio conditions in the presence of the audience at 2 p.m. and, 8 p.m. each day, and it is hoped to test five couples at each session. At ench presentation will be shown a film of Mri Chauvel directing his two greatest discoveries, Errol Plynn and Mary Maguire. In addition, Mr. Chauvel will conduct a search for child talent for the screen. Tests will be made on the Winter Garden stage at 11 a.m. each day, and the selected child will receive a money prize and a training at a dramatic school, physical traininc school, and dancing academy in Brisbane. Mr. Chauvel is now at work on a film, which has been tentatively entitled 'Thunder Over the Desert,' dramatising the exploits of the Australian Light Horse in the Great War. Mr. Patrick Penny, Mr.' Chauvel's assistant director, is in Brisbane making preliminary arrangements for the talent quest.
