CHIPPER'S LEAP.

The Site Preserved.

When construction of a deviation of the York-road at Greenmount was proposed, the West Australian Historical Society urged upon the Main Roads Board the desirability of, preserving the rock known as Chipper's Leap, which is associated with a thrilling episode in the 'thirties. If the proposed deviation skirted that rock and did not damage its dominating posi-tion, the board was informed, the society, would have no cause to complain, and would be grateful to the board for its aid in the matter. The society bas received the following letter from the secretary of the Main Roads Board:-"I have to advise that the route to be followed by the Greenmount deviation has been de-cided, and it is found that the dominating position of the rock known as Chipper's Leap will in no way be damaged."
