Administering Legislation.

SYDNEY, Aug. 3.-Following the introauction of the Marketing" Bill in Victoria, the Minister for Agriculture in that State (Mr. Slater) had a conference with Mr. Thorny in Sydney yesterday, with a view to securing uniformity in the details of the administration of such legislation. Amongst other general matters which were discussed the question of taking a poll simultan-eously in the two States was considered, and it was agreed that the two Depart-ments of Agriculture, through their respec-tive Ministers, would keep closely in touch on all matters affecting the coming har-

vest.

Mr. Thorhy stated yesterday that fol-lowing a petition signed by 342 growers, wheat bad been proclaimed a commodity under the Marketing of Primary Products Act, 1927-1930, and a postal vote poll was to be taken on September 20 on the ques-tion of constituting a wheat marketing Board for New South Wales.

Southern Cross, Aug. 4.-Bain set in here last night and was general in the dis-trict. The falls in July totalled 92 points, making 1,028 points for seven months. In many of the crops on the miners' settle-ment the growth, it is reported, hos been too rapid on the new land; and the wheat is tipped. The settlers, however, are con-fident of a good return. Road facilities are wanted pending the construction of the South Yilgarn railway promised by Mr. Collier when at Dulyalbin in connection with the Yilgarn Centenary celebration. Reports to-day from Mount Jackson sta-tion 6tate that in July 30 points fell, mak-ing 1,100 points for seven months. On Wooling sheep station, Rymill Brothers have had good lambing and will shear about 1,600 for the first stocking of this pastoral lease, which is 120 miles north-east of Southern Cross.
