'THE PLYING DOCTOR'

World Premiere At Regent

'Because of the local interest in Brisbane's own famous screen artist, Miss Mary Maguife, it was decided to first release National Productions'

picture, 'The Flying Doctor,' at the Regent Theatre,' said Mr. John P. O'Callaerhan, Hoyts Theatres executive, who arrived in Brisbane yesterday to handle the world premiere of the picture. Mr. O'Callaghan paid a glowing tribute to Miss Maguire's acting. She had faced a very exacting role that called for a deep understanding and appreciation of subtle human shadtogs, and had grasped every situation thoroughly and competently. It had been realised early that in 'The Flying Doctor' there was an excellent opportunity to produce a picture of definite world standard. The picture had to have strong entertainment value, and that had been secured by the purchase of a story ol real dramatic quality. For the world market, however, and acceptability in World market, was the acid test for any picture wherever made, more than just entertainment. National Productions, Ltd., had been fortunate in persuading Miles Mander, a director of the Gaumont British Co., to come to Australia, He had brought with him Captain Orton, a front-rank scenarist with the same firm. These two experts took complete control of the actual production operations. Ac the same time, and after a considerable canvass of the most acceptable film stars who would conform to Australian conditions, negotiations had been opened with Charles Farrell. It was an ideal choice. That he could play a typical Australian character was not for a moment doubted, and the results evident In 'The Flying Doctor' more than fulfilled every expectation.
