Grand Junction Canal. — Some of our plodding jitizens were yesterday startled by the private exhibition of ' A Bird's-eye View of the Country between Adelaide, and the North Ann, showing the proposed Grand Junction Canal.' The artist is Mr. Edward SneU, and although he baa drawn freely upon Jlis imagination in ponrtraying tho possible improvements and prospective traffic, there is a decided truthfulness in his delineations of those natural features which so frequently render the harbour of Port Adelaide the object of eulogistic description or warm discussion. The design is most spirited and animating; bat the cost, we suspect, will not be trifling, although the nature of the country is favourable for the canalization and the railway system proposed to be introduced. Town and Country Land and Buildino Society. — Seven shares were sold by this Society last evening as follow:— £U, £45 5a., £45 10s., £46 10s., £48 5sM £48 8s., and £48 2s. Ancient Order op Foresters. — The brothers and friends of the Court Homely Retreat, Thebarton, met on Thursday last to celebrate their anniversary, when Host McCarron put on the table a dinner worthy of the occasion, which was ably presided over by that indefatigable friend of the Order, District Chief Ranger Sanders, who was supported by District Secretary Mullett, and the Surgeon of the Court, Dr. Baruh. Through the unfavourable state of the weather there was not such a full company tut was expected; but still the evening wan spent in a pleasant and satisfactory manner. It is said that the Pope means to found an order of married preachers, for the sake of finding employment for those English clergymen who, being married, cannot become Homish priests. It is even hinted that the chaplains of the new order will bo allowed to use the English Liturgy with certain modificationF. The New York Herald says that Adam Dame, convicted of a murder at Louis, has been transported for seventy-five yean,
