NOARLUNGA ELECTION. — RETURN OF WILLIAM PEACOCK, ESQ.

On Saturday the polling-places of this district at Tapley's Hill and Noarlunga were thronged with respectable far-mers and others desirous of recording their votes in favour of their respective candidates, Major O'Halloran and W.

PeacocK, Esq. Both parties were confident of success until toward the close of the poll, when the arrivals at Noar-lunga from the other two polling-places tended considerably to reduce the hilarity of the Major's friends. No instance of drunkenness or disorder occurred during the whole time, although, as may be expected, temperance with all was not the order of the day. At Noarlunga, the Returning Officer — Richard Bosworth, Esq., having thanked the electors for their prompt attendance, nearly all the votes having been polled before 2 o'clock, announced the result of the poll there to be in favour of Major O'Halloran. It was received with loud cheers, followed by others for the Returning Officer, who stated that he should there declare the close of the poll at the three polling-places on Tuesday at noon. The following are the numbers polled at the various places : — O'Halloran. Peacock. Adelaide 52 55 Tapley's Hill 42 114 Noarlunga 126 93 220 262 Majority in favour of Mr. Peacock ... 42
