SECONDARY SCHOOLS' SPORTS.

I The recent sports meetings conducted by

the Secondary Schools are the subject of a number of illustrations in this issue. Cham-pionship honours went to the Christian Brothers' College, Scotch College being next. Christian Brothers' College were also represented by the most successful ath-lete in Cumming, who, it may be stated in passing, is a prominent League foot-baller. The same College was successful last year, and on that occasion also Sav-age, one of its representatives, proved the champion athlete. Tho next best athlete was Richardson, of Scotch College. Several new records were established, while in other events the time was equal to records al-ready held. Of the younger competitors, Gonzales etood out as au athlete of fine promise. The Mile Open Kaee-Mhe final event-was won on the tape by Richard-son, of Scotch College, after a magnificent finish with Yelverton, of the same school. At the close of the afternoon His Excel-lency thc Governor presented the trophies to the successful competitors, ? and at thc instance of Mr. Faulkner, headmaster of the High School, three lusty cheers were

The illustrations include a group photo- j graph of the Guildford boys, who won*the ! cross-country schools' race. In 1908 the event was won by Guildford, with Gumming (C.B.C.) champion; in 1909 C.B.C. were vic-torious, with Cumming again- at the head of affairs-, while this year Guildford were again victorious in the teams' contest, which carries with it the W. L. Garrard Cup, while Cumming, the C.B.C. champion, maintained his unbroken record by secur-

ing first place in fine style. Brodie (G.G.S.), -after a magnificent race ' with Roberts (C.B.C), was successful in carrying off the honours for boys Under 14- years. Referring to the Government proposals with regard to Rottnest Island, the Col-onial Secretary (Mr. J. D. Connolly) stated this week that the arrangements for throw-ing the island open as a resort for tourists were wêll in hand.
