YILGARN.

Southern Cross, April 16. J

The Great Unknown at Marda is now treating a parcel of about 50 tons of ore at the Mount Jackson State battery, from which a return of 4oz. per ton is ex-pected.

The Standard miuo at Mt. Jackson, from which high grade ore to the value of about £3,000 was recently won by the owner, John Garrett, was a few weeks ago sold by him for thc small sum of £20. The new owners have since opened up some

rich ore.

The Athlone mine at Mt. Jackson has been applied for by a syndicate of six working miners from Coolgardie. This property, has been abandoned for , some time. The water below the No. 1

level is heavy and makes mining' operations below that point difficult and costly.

The Haddon Consolidated at Southern Cross, over - which the Golden Ridge Cornpa ny recently held an option, has treated 35 tons. The yield by amalgamation was 3¿dwt. per ton, and the tailings assayed

9dwt.

The diamond drill on Frasers mine is now down a depth of 850ft.

The amouut tff gold sent away by the local branch of thc West Australian Bank during the current week was 8,500oz., the largest consigurnent sent from the field

since 1893.
