PEASANT FIRES VILLAGE.

Wild with rage because he believed

he had not received his proper share of Government redistricted land, Peter

Grachev set fire to the village of Ivan-kovo, in the Kostroma province, Russia.

Then barricading himself he killed 17 persons and wounded three others who tried to save the burning property.

Grachev held a fire company sent by a neighbouring village at bay, until not a house was left standing. The mad man then turned his rifle on the livestock and killed 12 horses.

After this exploit Grachev disappear-ed and a special detachment of militia was sent to comb the countryside, but failed to find him.—("San Francisco Examiner.")
