CHAMPION BAY.

The ' Geffrard,' brig, arrived here on Sunday, from Fremantle, after a run of 24 hours from port to port, and the 'May' sailed yesterday afternoon for Fremantle, with Messrs. J. Drum-mond, H. C. Elliott, J. Williams, Mrs. Drum-mond, and the Misses Logne, as passengers.

You may possibly hear various rumours, and receive different reports of the cause of her de-tention here beyond her proper time of sailing, and as her male passengers are witnesses on an important trial, about which, as might be ex-pected, there is much local excitement, suspi-cions are rife, which the interest of parties con-cerned are sufficient to cause, though not to justify the expression of.

As the matter stands, it presents nothing of public interest; but should anything arise to give it that character before next week, you may depend on my giving you full particulars without fear or favour, that I
