FIRST MATCH AT GOULBURN. WIN FOR THE ENGLISHMEN.

(By Telegraph from Our Correspondent.)

SYDNEY, June 14.

Great interest was taken at Goulburn to-day in the first match played in Australia by the English team of Rugby footballers, the match being witnessed by a large crowd of people. Mr. Mullineaux, the English captain, won the toss, and elected to defend with a southerly wind in his favour. Play was fast, and Adamson soon succeeded in scoring the first try for England. Timms took the kick, but failed to score a goal. Play was then carried into the local men's quarters, their goal being frequently in danger. Mullineaux put in good work, being particularly smart in his passes, from one of which Timms secured a try, which Adamson failed to convert into a goal ; the score at half-time standing-England, 6 paints ; Goulburn, nil.

In the second half good play was put in by both sides, the local forwards showing up well. From a pass Timms secured a third try for England, Adamson, taking the kick, which was successful. Just before the close of play the Goulburn forwards made a strong attack, Kimpton securing a try, which Magee failed to convert, and the game ended in favour of England by 11 points to 3.
